What is category in SAP SCM-APO-ATP - Global Available-to-Promise?

  • Component: SCM-APO-ATP

  • Component Name: Global Available-to-Promise

  • Description: Name for the various types of stock, receipts, requirements and forecasts in the SAP APO system. The categories are used to configure the scope of check for the product availability check. Examples of categories are a created production order and a released production order. Categories which represent the MRP elements in the SAP R/3 system are delivered with the SAP APO system. Additional categories can be created for non-SAP systems.

    Category is a term used in SAP's SCM-APO-ATP Global Available-to-Promise (ATP) component. It is used to group products together based on their characteristics, such as size, color, or material. This allows for easier management of product availability and inventory. 
    
    How to use it: 
    In order to use categories in SAP's SCM-APO-ATP Global Available-to-Promise (ATP) component, users must first create the categories they wish to use. This can be done by navigating to the “Categories” tab in the ATP menu and selecting “Create Category”. From there, users can enter the desired characteristics of the category and save it. Once the category has been created, users can assign products to it by navigating to the “Products” tab and selecting “Assign Category”.

For example, if a company wishes to track inventory by size, they should create categories based on size rather than color or material.
