reserve sample - Details

  • Term: Reserve Sample

    Component: QM - Quality Management

Definition: A reserve sample in SAP Quality Management is a portion of a physical material sample that is set aside and stored securely after initial quality inspection. It serves as a backup or reference sample for future testing, dispute resolution, or verification purposes.

How It’s Used: During the quality inspection process, especially in goods receipt or production inspections, a sample of the material is taken for testing. A part of this sample is designated as the reserve sample and stored separately. If there is a need to re-inspect the material later, verify test results, or resolve quality disputes with suppliers or internal departments, the reserve sample is used. This ensures traceability and supports quality assurance processes.

    Important Configuration:

    • Activate reserve sample management in the inspection lot settings within QM customizing (SPRO path: Quality Management ? Quality Inspection ? Inspection Lot Creation ? Define Inspection Lot Origin).
    • Define sample management parameters in the material master under the QM view, specifying if reserve samples are required.
    • Use transaction codes such as QA32 (Change/Display Inspection Lots) to manage inspection lots and samples.
    • Maintain storage location and handling procedures for reserve samples in coordination with Warehouse Management or Inventory Management.
