  • Key Concepts:
The Improvement Gatekeeper Act (IGA) is a Dutch law that requires employers to take measures to improve the health and safety of their employees. It applies to all employers in the Netherlands, regardless of size or sector. The IGA requires employers to identify and assess risks in the workplace, develop and implement measures to reduce or eliminate those risks, and monitor the effectiveness of those measures.

    How to use it:
In order to comply with the IGA, employers must first identify and assess any potential risks in the workplace. This includes assessing the physical environment, such as noise levels, air quality, temperature, lighting, and ventilation; assessing any hazardous materials or substances; and assessing any potential psychological risks such as stress or workload. Once these risks have been identified and assessed, employers must develop and implement measures to reduce or eliminate them. These measures can include providing protective equipment, implementing safety procedures, providing training, and introducing ergonomic workstations. Finally, employers must monitor the effectiveness of these measures to ensure that they are working as intended.

    Tips & Tricks:
When assessing potential risks in the workplace, it is important to consider both physical and psychological factors. It is also important to involve employees in the process of identifying and assessing risks, as they may be able to provide valuable insights into potential hazards that may not be immediately obvious.

    Related Information:
The IGA is part of a larger set of laws known as the Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbeidsomstandighedenwet). This act sets out a number of requirements for employers in terms of health and safety in the workplace. It also requires employers to provide employees with information about any potential risks in the workplace.
