What is holiday premium in SAP PY-DE - Germany?

SAP Term: holiday premium

  • Component: PY-DE

  • Component Name: Germany

  • Description: A holiday premium is paid, similar to the leave and sick pay premium LSPP, for a public holiday on which an employee should have worked according to the regular working hours schedule, but did not do so due to the public holiday. As is the case for LSPP, an average of the time wage types from the past three months is formed and paid as a daily premium. According to the pay scale, this is only used for December 24 and December 31 of a year, but some employers would also like to use this for regular public holidays that fall on a working day. The reason for this payment is that an employee does an average of one hour of overtime each day, which is not possible on this non-working day. This means that the employee would have less money, which can be offset using this premium.

  • Key Concepts:
Holiday premium is a payment made to employees in Germany in addition to their regular salary for working on public holidays. This payment is regulated by the German Federal Holiday Act (Bundesurlaubsgesetz) and is based on the employee's salary.

    How to use it:
In SAP, the holiday premium is calculated using the PY-DE Germany component. This component allows you to set up the holiday premium rate for each employee, as well as the number of public holidays in a year. The system then calculates the holiday premium amount for each employee based on their salary and the number of public holidays in a year.

    Tips & Tricks:
When setting up the holiday premium rate, make sure to check with local regulations to ensure that you are compliant with all applicable laws. Additionally, it is important to keep track of any changes in the number of public holidays in a year, as this will affect the amount of holiday premium paid out.
