  Total float is a term used in the SAP Project System (PS) component to describe the amount of time a task can be delayed without delaying the entire project. It is calculated by subtracting the Early Start date of a task from its Late Start date. 
  
  How to use it: 
  Total float can be used to identify tasks that can be delayed without impacting the overall project timeline. To calculate total float, open the Gantt chart view in the PS component and select the task you want to calculate total float for. The Early Start and Late Start dates will be displayed in the chart. Subtract the Early Start date from the Late Start date to get the total float for that task. 
  
  Tips & Tricks: 
  When calculating total float, it is important to remember that it only applies to tasks that are not on the critical path. Tasks on the critical path have zero total float because any delay in these tasks will cause a delay in the entire project timeline. 
  
  Related Information: 
  Total float is related to another term called free float, which is calculated by subtracting the Early Start date of a task from its Early Finish date. Free float describes how much time a task can be delayed without delaying any other tasks in the project.
