What is resulting item category in SAP PP - Production Planning and Control?


SAP Term: resulting item category

  • Component: PP

  • Component Name: Production Planning and Control

  • Description: The categorization of class items for updating BOMs. Depending on the object linked to the class type, you can enter item data that is relevant to the objects allocated to the class. &EXAMPLE& If the class type is linked to the material master, you can choose one of the following resulting item categories: stock item, non-stock item, variable-size item or PM structure element. If the class type is linked to documents, you can choose "document item" as the resulting item category.

    Resulting item category is a feature in SAP Production Planning and Control (PP) that allows users to determine the item category of a material based on the material’s characteristics. It is used to determine the item category of a material when it is created or changed. The item category is used to determine the type of material, such as whether it is a finished product, semi-finished product, or raw material. 
    
    How to use it: 
    In order to use the resulting item category feature, users must first define the item categories in the system. This can be done by going to the Customizing menu in PP and selecting “Define Item Categories”. Once the item categories have been defined, users can then assign a resulting item category to each material. This can be done by going to the Material Master Data menu in PP and selecting “Assign Resulting Item Category”. 
    
    Tips & Tricks: 
    When assigning a resulting item category to a material, it is important to make sure that all of the material’s characteristics are taken into account. This will ensure that the correct item category is assigned and that the material is correctly classified.
