What is change type in SAP PP - Production Planning and Control?

SAP Term: change type

  • Component: PP

  • Component Name: Production Planning and Control

  • Description: The change type controls the process flow of change objects in engineering change management. You can define this for an entire change master record, or for objects that are assigned to the change master, such as bills of material or routings. The process flow is defined internally using the system status, and you cannot change it manually. The workflow workbench lets you define specific workflow tasks for specific processing statuses. These tasks are monitored and controlled by the workflow manager. If you want to organize the business transactions for a specific processing status in more detail, you can define a status profile in Customizing and assign the profile to the change type. In the change master, this process flow is controlled by the user status.

Smart SAP Assistant

  • Key Concepts:
Change type is a feature in SAP Production Planning and Control (PP) that allows users to classify and group changes to master data. It is used to differentiate between different types of changes, such as changes to material master data, BOMs, routings, and work centers. Change types are also used to control the authorization process for making changes.

    How to use it:
Change types are assigned to each change request in the system. When a user creates a change request, they must select the appropriate change type from the list of available options. This will determine which authorization process is used for the change request. The user must also provide additional information about the change, such as the reason for the change and any other relevant details.

    Tips & Tricks:
It is important to select the correct change type when creating a change request. This will ensure that the correct authorization process is used and that all relevant information is provided. It is also important to keep track of all change requests and their associated change types in order to ensure that all changes are properly documented and tracked.
