What is total consumption in SAP MM-IM - Inventory Management?

  • Description: The sum of planned and unplanned consumption. Planned consumption is updated if goods are withdrawn from stock on the basis of a reservation. Unplanned consumption is updated if goods are withdrawn without a reservation.

    Total consumption is a term used in SAP Inventory Management (MM-IM) to refer to the total amount of material that has been consumed from a particular stock. This includes both the quantity of material that has been physically removed from the stock, as well as the quantity of material that has been reserved for future use. 
    
    How to use it: 
    Total consumption can be viewed in the SAP system by navigating to the Inventory Management (MM-IM) module and selecting the “Total Consumption” report. This report will display the total amount of material that has been consumed from a particular stock, as well as the quantity of material that has been reserved for future use. 
    
    Tips & Tricks: 
    It is important to note that total consumption does not include any material that has been returned to the stock after being consumed. Therefore, it is important to also check the “Returned Material” report in order to get an accurate picture of the total amount of material that has been consumed from a particular stock.
