  • Description: A break specified in an employee's work schedule with a defined start and end time. A fixed break can lie within an employee's scheduled working time or outside of it. For example, a fixed break of 45 minutes starting at 10:00 and ending at 10:45, within a scheduled working time of 06:00 - 14:00. Where an employee works overtime beyond his or her scheduled working time, fixed breaks may be assigned within the overtime period if this is specified in the work schedule. Breaks do not count as an employee's working time and are not compensated unless legal regulations, collective agreements, contracts, or other provisions specify that they should.
