• Description: In India, an accounting posting whereby excise duty that you have already posted to the duty account is transferred to an expense account instead as a result of your not being able to comply with the conditions attached to the CENVAT scheme. &EXAMPLE& You have purchased some cogs for INR 10,000 and debited the excise duty at INR 1,600 to the excise duty account. For some reason, you are unable to claim back INR 600 of the excise duty. You then have to credit the INR 600 to the excise duty account and debit the CENVAT reversal account. This account shows any excise expense.
