What is protected time period in SAP LO-ECH - Engineering Change Management?


SAP Term: protected time period

  • Description: An amount of time which triggers a warning or error message when a date shift is carried out in the change master record. The base date for the check is the current date. The system calculates the entered warning or error time in days back or forward from the current date. The key date it determines and all the days before the key date belong to the protected time period.

    Protected time period is a feature in SAP LO-ECH Engineering Change Management that allows users to set a specific time period during which changes to an engineering object cannot be made. This feature helps to ensure that changes are not made to an engineering object without the proper authorization. 
    
    How to use it: 
    To set a protected time period, users must first select the engineering object they wish to protect. Then, they must select the “Protected Time Period” option from the menu. This will open a window where users can enter the start and end dates of the protected time period. Once the dates are entered, users can click “Save” to set the protected time period. 
    
    Tips & Tricks: 
    It is important to note that once a protected time period is set, it cannot be changed or removed until the end date of the protected time period has passed. Therefore, it is important to make sure that the start and end dates of the protected time period are correct before saving it.
