SAP Term: posting rule

Smart SAP Assistant

  • Key Concepts:
Posting rules are used in the IS-OIL-DS-OGSD Oil & Gas Secondary Distribution component of SAP to define the accounting entries that are created when a document is posted. The posting rules are used to determine which accounts and cost centers should be used for each document type.

    How to use it:
Posting rules can be created and maintained in the SAP system using transaction code OB41. The posting rule consists of a set of conditions that must be met for the rule to be applied. For example, a posting rule may specify that a certain account should be used if the document type is “sales order” and the customer is “ABC Company”. Once the posting rule has been created, it can be assigned to a document type in the SAP system.

    Tips & Tricks:
When creating posting rules, it is important to ensure that all conditions are specified correctly. If any of the conditions are not met, then the posting rule will not be applied and the accounting entries will not be created correctly. It is also important to ensure that all relevant accounts and cost centers are specified in the posting rule.
