What is strength substitution in SAP IS-HMED - Clinical System?

  • Description: If a drug or an ingredient of a drug is substituted by another drug or ingredient, the strength of the substitute drug must correspond to the original agent dose of the substituted drug.

  • Key Concepts: Strength substitution is a feature of the IS-HMED Clinical System that allows for the substitution of one medication strength for another. This feature is useful when a patient needs a medication that is not available in the desired strength.
    How to use it: To use strength substitution, the user must first select the desired medication from the medication list. Then, they must select the desired strength from the list of available strengths. If the desired strength is not available, they can select “Substitute Strength” and enter the desired strength. The system will then search for a medication with the same active ingredient and closest available strength.
    Tips & Tricks: When using strength substitution, it is important to check that the substituted medication has the same active ingredient as the original medication. This will ensure that the patient receives the correct medication.
