What is pooling in SAP IS-AD-ROT - Rotables Management?

SAP Term: pooling

  • Component: IS-AD-ROT

  • Component Name: Rotables Management

  • Description: Common scenario in the airline industry when sharing spare parts at given locations to support once-off-failures and thereby minimize costs. In a 'pooling' scenario one airline is either the provider vendor or the user customer of the shared stock. A formal 'pooling' access contract defines which parts from which provider an airline operator has access to. An access fee is to be paid as part of the contractual agreement. If the need for such a part at the specified location occurs, the airline operator concerned removes the part from the stock of the provider and fits it to his own aircraft. Once the aircraft has returned to its home base the same part is removed and sent back to the provider at the location it was taken from. If the returned part is accompanied by the proper regulatory documentation no further costs occur, otherwise costs for quality and safety checks may be charged to the customer.
