What is query syntax in SAP FIN-SEM-BIC - Business Information Collection?

SAP Term: query syntax

  • Component: FIN-SEM-BIC

  • Component Name: Business Information Collection

  • Description: The description of a formal structure of a character string, which is interpreted as a search query by a search engine. The query syntax of search engines is not standardized and must therefore be determined separately for every search engine which should be accessed. The character string formed according to the syntax is transferred to the Web server as part of the URL, and is evaluated by the search engine. This activity takes place automatically when the search engine is operated interactively. On the other hand, programs, which access a search engine as a client for example, the backend software of meta search engines, must execute the embedding of search terms in a well-formed character string corresponding to the query syntax.

  • Key Concepts:
Query syntax is a language used to create queries in SAP Business Information Collection (FIN-SEM-BIC). It is based on the Structured Query Language (SQL) and allows users to define and execute queries on data stored in the system. The syntax consists of commands, keywords, and clauses that are used to define the query.

To use query syntax, users must first define the query by specifying the data they want to retrieve. This is done by using commands such as SELECT, FROM, WHERE, and ORDER BY. Once the query is defined, it can be executed by using the EXECUTE command. The results of the query can then be viewed in a table or chart format.
