  • Key Concepts:
The Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement that was adopted in 1997 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is the first legally binding agreement to reduce emissions and is based on the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities. The Kyoto Protocol requires countries to reduce their emissions of six greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulfur hexafluoride) by an average of 5.2% below 1990 levels over the five-year period from 2008 to 2012.

    How to use it:
The Kyoto Protocol is implemented through the EHS-CI SAP Carbon Impact component. This component allows companies to measure and report their greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol. It also provides tools for companies to set targets for reducing their emissions and track their progress towards those targets.

    Tips & Tricks:
When using the EHS-CI SAP Carbon Impact component, it is important to ensure that all data is accurate and up-to-date. This will ensure that your company’s emissions are accurately reported and that you are meeting your targets for reducing emissions.

    Related Information:
The Kyoto Protocol has been superseded by the Paris Agreement, which was adopted in 2015 and entered into force in 2016. The Paris Agreement sets a global goal of limiting global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. The Paris Agreement also requires countries to submit nationally determined contributions (NDCs) outlining their plans for reducing emissions.
