What is subenvironment in SAP CO - Controlling?

SAP Term: subenvironment

  • Component: CO

  • Component Name: Controlling

  • Description: A group of functions that are assigned to an environment and located at a lower level than the main environment. Subenvironments group functions by theme. They are provided in the standard system. A subenvironment can be assigned to different environments. When you assign a function to a subenvironment, it is also made available in all main environments containing that subenvironment. When you define a template, however, only the environment can be specified, and not the subenvironment.

Smart SAP Assistant

  • Key Concepts:
A subenvironment is a feature of the SAP CO Controlling component that allows users to create and manage multiple versions of the same controlling area. This allows users to make changes to the controlling area without affecting the original version. The subenvironment also allows users to compare different versions of the controlling area and make changes accordingly.

    How to use it:
To use the subenvironment feature, users must first create a controlling area in the SAP system. Once the controlling area is created, users can create a subenvironment by selecting the “Create Subenvironment” option from the menu. This will open a window where users can enter a name for the subenvironment and select which version of the controlling area they want to use as a base. Once the subenvironment is created, users can make changes to it without affecting the original version.

    Tips & Tricks:
When creating a subenvironment, it is important to give it a descriptive name so that it is easy to identify later on. It is also important to remember that any changes made in a subenvironment will not be reflected in the original version of the controlling area until they are explicitly saved.
