What is input quantity variance in SAP CO - Controlling?

  • Description: The difference between target cost and actual cost caused by differences between the planned and actual quantities of goods consumed. &EXAMPLE& The quantity of raw materials withdrawn from inventory for a production order was higher than planned, or the activity quantity used at a cost center was less than planned.

    Input quantity variance is a term used in SAP Controlling (CO) to describe the difference between the planned and actual input quantities of a production order. It is calculated by subtracting the planned input quantity from the actual input quantity. This variance can be used to analyze production efficiency and identify areas for improvement. 
    
    How to use it: 
    Input quantity variance can be accessed in SAP Controlling (CO) by navigating to the Production Order Information System (PPIS). From there, select the “Input Quantity Variance” tab and enter the production order number. The system will then display the planned and actual input quantities, as well as the variance between them. 
    
    Tips & Tricks: 
    It is important to note that input quantity variance is only applicable to production orders, not other types of orders. Additionally, it is important to ensure that all planned and actual input quantities are entered accurately in order to get an accurate variance calculation.
