Questions with a closed set of permitted answers are suitable for such topics for which in reality only a restricted and in advance a known number of characteristic values exists for example, the question about gender in demographic studies or if a value continuum should be divided deliberately into a few categories for example, age group, income class. They are particularly easy to evaluate but hold the danger of a narrowing according to subject if possible answers are overlooked or deliberately omitted in the questionnaire design.
