What is cell lock in SAP BW-PLA - Planning?

  • Description: Function that enables you to lock input-ready cells in planning applications, to prevent manual changes from being made to the cells. A locked cell is a time-limited setting that only applies to the current user session. There are two implementations of this function in the BW system: cell locks in the query front-end cell lock and global cell locks in the planning application of a Web template back-end cell lock.

    Cell Lock is a feature in SAP BW-PLA Planning that allows users to lock certain cells in a planning table. This prevents other users from changing the values in the locked cells, ensuring that the data remains consistent and accurate. 
    
    How to use it: 
    To use Cell Lock, users must first select the cells they want to lock. This can be done by selecting the cells and then clicking on the “Lock” button in the toolbar. Once the cells are locked, they will be marked with a padlock icon and other users will not be able to change their values. 
    
    Tips & Tricks: 
    When using Cell Lock, it is important to remember that only certain users can unlock locked cells. The user who locked the cell is the only one who can unlock it, so it is important to keep track of who has locked which cells.
