Smart SAP Assistant

  • Key Concepts:
Substring is a function in SAP Crystal Reports that allows users to extract a portion of a string of characters. It can be used to extract a specific part of a string, such as the first three characters or the last five characters. It can also be used to extract a range of characters from within a string.

    How to use it:
To use the substring function in SAP Crystal Reports, you must first select the field that contains the string of characters you want to extract from. Then, you must specify the starting position and the number of characters you want to extract. The starting position is the character number in the string where you want to begin extracting, and the number of characters is how many characters you want to extract from that starting position.

    Tips & Tricks:
When using substring, it is important to remember that character positions start at 0, not 1. This means that if you want to extract the first three characters from a string, you would specify 0 as the starting position and 3 as the number of characters.

    Related Information:
The substring function can be used in conjunction with other functions in SAP Crystal Reports, such as trim and concatenate. It can also be used with parameters and formulas to create more complex expressions.
