SAP Term: demilitarized zone

  • Component: BC-SEC

  • Component Name: Security

  • Description: An area that exists between two networks that allows connections between the networks without sacrificing unauthorized access to the systems located within the networks. &EXAMPLE& A company typically sets up a demilitarized zone DMZ between the company's local intranet and the Internet. • Key Concepts:
A demilitarized zone (DMZ) is a network security measure used to protect an organization's internal network from external threats. It is a physical or logical subnetwork that contains and exposes an organization's external-facing services to an untrusted, usually public, network such as the Internet.

    How to use it:
In SAP, a DMZ can be used to protect the internal network from external threats by isolating the external-facing services from the internal network. This can be done by setting up a firewall between the DMZ and the internal network, which will only allow traffic from the DMZ to the internal network.

    Tips & Tricks:
When setting up a DMZ in SAP, it is important to ensure that only necessary services are exposed to the public network. This can be done by limiting access to only those services that are required for external communication. Additionally, it is important to ensure that all traffic between the DMZ and the internal network is encrypted.
