Description: The part of an IDoc type standard format for data communication that that can include additional optional data about the business process. The segment does not therefore have to appear in an IDoc for a specific business process.
Key Concepts: Optional segment is a feature of SAP ALE Integration Technology that allows users to define segments in an IDoc (Intermediate Document) that are not mandatory for the IDoc to be processed. This allows users to add additional information to an IDoc without having to make it mandatory for the IDoc to be processed. How to use it: To use optional segments, users must first define the segment in the IDoc type. This can be done by selecting the “Optional” checkbox in the Segment Definition tab of the IDoc type. Once this is done, users can then add the optional segment to an IDoc by selecting it from the list of available segments. Tips & Tricks: When using optional segments, it is important to remember that they are not mandatory for the IDoc to be processed. This means that if an optional segment is not included in an IDoc, it will still be processed without any errors. Related Information: For more information on optional segments and how to use them, please refer to SAP Help documentation on ALE Integration Technology.
