What is locale in SAP BC-I18 - Internationalization (I18N)?

  • Component Name: Internationalization (I18N)

  • Description: Language-specific processes sorting, conversion to uppercase, etc. are defined by the locale, which is provided by the hardware manufacturer. Locales are hardware-specific. In a heterogeneous application server environment, this can lead to complications for users. SAP provides the locales for SAP Blended Code Pages. A locale must be installed for each language installed on the system.

  • Key Concepts: 
    A locale is a set of parameters that defines the user's language, country, and any special variant preferences that the user wants to see in their user interface. It is used to customize the user interface of SAP applications to the user's language and regional preferences. 
    
    How to use it: 
    In order to use a locale, the user must first select it in the SAP system. This can be done by going to the “User Profile” tab in the SAP GUI and selecting the “Locale” option. From there, the user can select their desired locale from a list of available locales. 
    
    Tips & Tricks: 
    It is important to note that some locales may not be available in certain SAP systems. Additionally, some locales may require additional language packs or other components to be installed in order for them to work properly.
