  • Description: Describes the smallest function that can be executed separately. A service operation processes messages of different message types for example, requests, confirmations, or fault messages between different applications process components in the same company A2A, A2X or between different companies B2B. Service operations are classified according to the following criteria: Direction: Inbound versus outbound Inbound service operations receive messages from other process component s whereas outbound service operations send messages to other process components. Communication: Asynchronous versus synchronous In asynchronous communication, an immediate response is not expected after a request has been sent. A sending process can send multiple messages to a receiver in a bundle and then continue executing the process. In synchronous communication, however, a response message is expected from the receiver. No further messages can be sent until the response has arrived
