What is binding in SAP BC-ESI - Enterprise Service Infrastructure?

SAP Term: binding

  • Component: BC-ESI

  • Component Name: Enterprise Service Infrastructure

  • Description: An entity that needs to be created and configured in order to configure a service provider. It contains a runtime configuration, which is needed to implement the service, and it defines the address of a Web service along with its security settings. A binding determines which protocol is used for processing Web service messages. Without a binding a Web service is not callable. Communication between the service consumer and the service provider is established between the logical port of the consumer proxy and the binding of the provider proxy. To access a binding, a consumer with a runtime configuration sends a call through a logical port. A logical port can send a call to only one binding. However, a binding can be called through more than one logical port.

  • Key Concepts:
Binding is a concept in the SAP BC-ESI Enterprise Service Infrastructure that allows for the connection of two services. It is a way of connecting two services together so that they can communicate with each other and exchange data. The binding is done through a binding descriptor, which is an XML document that contains information about the services and how they should be connected.

    How to use it:
In order to use binding, you must first create a binding descriptor. This document contains information about the services that need to be connected, such as their names, locations, and any other relevant information. Once the binding descriptor is created, it can be used to connect the two services together. This can be done either manually or through an automated process.

    Tips & Tricks:
When creating a binding descriptor, it is important to make sure that all of the information is accurate and up-to-date. This will ensure that the connection between the two services is successful and that data can be exchanged properly. Additionally, it is important to keep the binding descriptor up-to-date as changes in either service may require changes in the binding descriptor.
