What is object group in SAP BC-DOC-TTL - Translation Tools?

SAP Term: object group

  • Component: BC-DOC-TTL

  • Component Name: Translation Tools

  • Description: An object group consists of object types that logically belong together. For example, the majority of object types whose texts appear directly on user interfaces belong to the object group A5 USER INTERFACE TEXTS. Object groups have two main purposes in the translation environment: A translation administrator uses object groups to determine the translation scope of each target language. For example, he or she could decide to include object group A5 USER INTERFACE TEXTS in the translation workflow for target languages English, French and Spanish, but to include object group C6 F1 HELP in the translation workflow for English only. A translator uses object groups to prioritize his or her work. For example, a translator into English would probably prioritize the translation of A5 USER INTERFACE TEXTS over C6 F1 HELP texts.

Smart SAP Assistant

  • Key Concepts:
Object groups are a feature of the SAP Translation Tools (BC-DOC-TTL) component. They are used to group together related objects, such as texts, tables, and programs, so that they can be translated together. This makes it easier to manage and maintain translations across multiple objects.

    How to use it:
Object groups can be created in the SAP system by going to the BC-DOC-TTL component and selecting the “Create Object Group” option. Once created, objects can be added to the group by selecting the “Add Objects” option. The objects can then be translated using the translation tools available in the BC-DOC-TTL component.

    Tips & Tricks:
When creating object groups, it is important to consider which objects should be grouped together. It is best to group objects that are related in some way, such as texts that are used in the same program or table entries that are related to each other. This will make it easier to manage and maintain translations across multiple objects.
