What is niping in SAP BC-CST - Client/Server Technology?

SAP Term: niping

Smart SAP Assistant

  • Key Concepts:
Niping is a feature of the SAP Client/Server Technology (BC-CST) component. It is used to reduce the amount of data that needs to be transferred between the client and server. Niping works by compressing the data before it is sent, and then decompressing it on the other end. This reduces the amount of time and bandwidth needed to transfer the data.

    How to use it:
In order to use niping, you must first enable it in the SAP system. This can be done by going to the “System” tab in the SAP GUI, selecting “Client/Server Technology”, and then selecting “Niping”. Once enabled, niping will automatically compress and decompress data as it is sent between the client and server.

    Tips & Tricks:
When using niping, it is important to keep in mind that it can only compress certain types of data. For example, text-based data such as HTML or XML can be compressed, but binary data such as images or videos cannot be compressed. Additionally, niping may not always provide a significant reduction in data size, so it is important to test different settings to find the best balance between compression and performance.
