SAP Term: fully qualified hostname

Smart SAP Assistant

  • Key Concepts:
A fully qualified hostname is a unique identifier for a computer or server on the internet. It consists of two parts: the hostname and the domain name. The hostname is the name of the computer or server, while the domain name is the name of the network it belongs to. For example, a fully qualified hostname might be “mycomputer.example.com”, where “mycomputer” is the hostname and “example.com” is the domain name.

    How to use it:
In SAP, a fully qualified hostname is used to identify a computer or server in the Internet Communication Manager (ICM) component. The ICM component is responsible for managing communication between SAP systems and external systems over the internet. When configuring an ICM connection, you must specify a fully qualified hostname for both the source and destination systems.

    Tips & Tricks:
When configuring an ICM connection, make sure that you use a valid fully qualified hostname for both systems. If you use an invalid hostname, your connection may not work properly. Additionally, make sure that both systems are using the same domain name.

    Related Information:
For more information about configuring ICM connections in SAP, please refer to SAP Help documentation on the topic. Additionally, you can find more information about fully qualified hostnames on websites such as Wikipedia and Techopedia.
