What is checkpoint in SAP BC-ABA - ABAP Runtime Environment?

SAP Term: checkpoint

  • Component: BC-ABA

  • Component Name: ABAP Runtime Environment

  • Description: The superordinate term for assertions, breakpoints, or logpoints. The ASSERT, BREAK-POINT, and LOG-POINT statements for the definition of checkpoints are not of an operative nature, instead they serve the instrumentation of the program for test purposes. Smart SAP Assistant

  • Key Concepts:
A checkpoint is a feature of the ABAP Runtime Environment (BC-ABA) in SAP that allows users to save their work at any point in the program. This allows users to return to their work at a later time without having to start from the beginning. Checkpoints are also used to store data that can be used for debugging purposes.

    How to use it:
To use checkpoints, users must first enable them in the ABAP Runtime Environment. This can be done by selecting the “Enable Checkpoints” option in the ABAP Runtime Environment settings. Once enabled, users can create checkpoints by pressing the “Create Checkpoint” button in the ABAP Runtime Environment. This will save all of the user’s work up to that point and allow them to return to it later.

    Tips & Tricks:
It is important to remember that checkpoints are not permanent and will be deleted if the user exits the program or if the system is restarted. Therefore, it is important to save checkpoints regularly in order to ensure that all of your work is saved. Additionally, it is important to remember that checkpoints are only available in the ABAP Runtime Environment and cannot be used in other SAP components.
