Description
This test checks whether the characteristic that is being checked () use
s a conversion routine (synonym: conversion exit). (See transaction <AB>
RSD1 </>-> tab page <ZK>General</>.) A conversion routine converts
characteristic values from the external format in which the user enters
the data and in which the data is displayed, into the internal format in
which the data is stored on the database. Characteristic values have to
be available in the internal format in the master data table especially.
The most significant example is the ALPHA conversion exit. With an
<ZK>external -> internal conversion</> the ALPHA exit only changes
purely numerical values. In the target field, these values are
right-aligned. With an <ZK>internal -> external conversion</> leading
zeros are removed for purely numerical values.
If the characteristic is using a conversion routine, the system checks
all the values in the <AB>SID</> table of the characteristic to
ascertain whether they are valid internal values. By definition, the val
ues of the function module that the external -> internal conversion exit
takes are the valid internal values. In this test, the values are first
converted from the internal to external format and then back from the
external into the internal format. If the value obtained does not agree
with the original, it is not valid.
Note
Invalid internal values can cause problems in reporting. For example, if
several values in the master data table are converted to the same value
during the internal -> external conversion, the user cannot distinguish
between them. It may seem that duplicate rows appear in reports. It is
also possible that the user selects a filter value that seems to exist
in the result but finds no data for the filter value.
Repairs
It is currently not possible to perform repairs automatically in transac
tion <AB>RSRV</>. You use transaction <AB>RSMDCNVEXIT</> to perform
conversion for you entire SAP BI system. See SAP Note 447341 and the

<AB>RSMDCNVEXIT</>.
