  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The value of the subtotal or total is locked. You try to lock the value
of one of the two remaining input ready summands. This is not possible.

    System Response

When you enter a value in a data cell with a locked total or subtotal,
the change in value has to be transferred to the other unlocked
summands. This means that at least one other (so, altogther at least
two) data cells must remain ready for input if the total is locked.
For a total with n summands, a maximum of n-2 summands can be locked at
    the same time.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WXPB224 - Locked totals must have at least two unlocked data cells ?

    SAP Error Message:
WXPB224: Locked totals must have at least two unlocked data cells

    Cause:

This error occurs in SAP Planning or Budgeting applications (such as SAP BPC, SAP BW-IP, or SAP Analytics Cloud Planning) when you try to lock a total cell in a planning or input-ready query, but the underlying data structure or input schedule does not have at least two unlocked (editable) data cells that contribute to that total.

In other words, the system requires that if you lock a total (aggregated) value, there must be at least two individual data cells (detailed values) that remain unlocked so that the system can distribute or allocate the total value among these unlocked cells. If there is only one or zero unlocked cells, the system cannot perform the allocation or spreading logic, hence the error.

    Explanation:

    • Locked totals: Totals or aggregated values that are fixed (locked) by the user or system, meaning they cannot be changed directly.
    • Unlocked data cells: The detailed data points or input cells that are editable and can be adjusted to reflect changes in totals.
    • The system expects at least two unlocked cells to spread or allocate the locked total value properly.

    Solution:

    1. Check the input schedule or planning query:

      • Verify which cells are locked and which are unlocked.
      • Ensure that for every locked total, there are at least two unlocked data cells underneath it.
    2. Unlock additional data cells:

      • If only one or zero data cells are unlocked under a locked total, unlock at least one more data cell.
      • This allows the system to allocate the locked total value across multiple unlocked cells.
    3. Adjust locking logic:

      • Review the locking rules or input-ready settings.
      • Modify the locking so that totals are not locked when there are insufficient unlocked cells.
    4. Review spreading/allocation settings:

      • If the system uses spreading or allocation logic to distribute totals, ensure that the logic is consistent with the locking setup.
    5. Test after changes:

      • After unlocking cells or adjusting locking rules, test the input schedule or planning query again to confirm the error is resolved.

    Related Information:

    • This error is common in SAP BPC (Business Planning and Consolidation) and SAP BW-IP (Business Warehouse Integrated Planning) when working with input-ready queries or planning functions.
    • Locking totals is often used to fix aggregated values while allowing detailed values to be adjusted.
    • The system requires multiple unlocked cells to perform spreading/allocation of locked totals.
    • Refer to SAP Note or documentation related to planning input schedules and locking behavior for your specific SAP product/version.
    • In SAP BPC, check the Input Schedule Designer or Excel Template locking settings.
    • In SAP BW-IP, check the Planning Function and Locking Settings in the query designer.

    Summary:

    • Cause: Locked total cells have fewer than two unlocked data cells beneath them.
    • Solution: Ensure at least two data cells under each locked total are unlocked to allow allocation.
    • Check: Locking rules, input schedule design, and spreading logic.
