  • What causes this issue?

    You want to go to the formula editor for a particular formula.
    The formula you selected does not, however, belong to the "arithmetic
    formula" category. You can only use the formula editor if the formula
    in question belongs to the "arithmetic formula" category.
    For other formula types (for example, value from the previous period),
    necessary information is maintained in the detail screen for the
    relevant formula.

    System Response

    The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    Check the formula category for your formula for the key figure target.

    Cause
    This warning message occurs in SAP when you try to use the Formula Editor in a context where it is not applicable. Specifically, the formula editor in SAP (often used in SAP Workflow or Business Rules Framework plus (BRF+)) is designed to handle arithmetical formulas (i.e., formulas involving numeric calculations). If you attempt to use it for non-arithmetical formulas such as logical expressions, string operations, or other non-numeric formula types, the system raises this warning.
    In other words, the formula editor expects numeric operands and arithmetic operations, but the formula you are trying to edit or create involves non-arithmetic data types or operations.
    
    When does it typically occur?
    
    When defining formulas in SAP Workflow or BRF+ where the formula editor is invoked.
    When trying to create or edit formulas that involve logical conditions, string concatenations, or other non-numeric operations using the arithmetic formula
