  • What causes this issue?

The current assignment of <DS:DE.WISP_PLMER>planning characteristics</>
to <DS:DE.WISP_PLSCH>planning steps</> corresponds to a global planning
hierarchy that is not a pure tree structure. Consequently, the
proportional factors for distributing plan data between planning levels
are no longer uniquely specified, or they have reciprocal dependencies.

    System Response

The link method selected cannot be created.

    How to fix this error?

Check the sequence of the planning levels of the source and target
planning steps. The planning levels common to both steps must be in the
same order, without any interruption at the peaks of the selected
planning characteristics. All characteristics of the planning step with
the lower number of planning levels must be contained in the other
    planning step.
    Example 1:
    Planning levels source planning step:
    SOrg
    DChan
    Planning levels target planning step:
    SOrg
    DChan
    Plants
Therefore the linking method disaggregation is possible.
    Example 2:
    Planning levels source planning step:
    SOrg
    DChan
    Plants
    Planning levels target planning step:
    SOrg
    DChan
Therefore the linking method aggregation is possible.
    Example 3:
    Planning levels step 1:
    SOrg
    DChan
    Plants
    Planning levels step 2:
    SOrg
    DChan
    MatGrp1
    MatCl
The linking methods aggregation and disaggregation are <ZH>not
</>possible as the planning level WERKS is not available in step 2 and
Matgrp1 and MatCl are not available in step 1.
    Define step 3 with characteristics.
    DOrg
    DChan
Then the aggregation or disaggregation of planning figures from step 1
to step 3 or step 2 to step 3 is possible and therefore also the
indirect transfer of plan data from step 1 to step 2 and vice versa.

    SAP Error Message:
WXP179 - Link method cannot be defined (see long text)

    Cause:

This error typically occurs in the context of Web Dynpro ABAP development when you try to define a link method for a UI element (such as a button or link) but the system cannot create or assign the link method properly. The root causes can include:

    • The link method you are trying to assign does not exist or is not implemented in the current context.
    • The link method is not correctly defined in the interface or component controller.
    • There is a mismatch between the method signature expected and the one provided.
    • The Web Dynpro component or view is in an inconsistent state or not properly activated.
    • The link method is being assigned in a context where it is not allowed or supported.

    Solution:

To resolve the WXP179 error, follow these steps:

    1. Check the Link Method Definition:

      • Verify that the link method you want to assign exists in the component controller or interface controller.
      • Ensure the method is implemented and activated.
    2. Verify Method Signature:

      • The link method should have the correct signature expected by the Web Dynpro framework.
      • Typically, link methods have no importing parameters and no returning parameters.
    3. Assign Link Method Correctly:

      • In the Web Dynpro Explorer, when assigning the link method to a UI element, make sure you select the correct method from the dropdown.
      • If the method is not listed, it means it is not available or not correctly defined.
    4. Activate All Objects:

      • Activate the Web Dynpro component, views, and controllers to ensure all changes are saved and compiled.
    5. Check for Inconsistencies:

      • Sometimes, inconsistencies in the Web Dynpro component can cause this error.
      • Try to clean and regenerate the component or recreate the link method.
    6. Review SAP Notes and Documentation:

      • Check SAP Notes for any known issues related to WXP179.
      • Sometimes, specific kernel or Web Dynpro framework patches may be required.
