  • What causes this issue?

To create a planning hierarchy from master data, you have to specify
which planning levels to be filled belong together, in the sense of a
"master data hierarchy". Examples of such master data hierarchies are
the CDT hierarchy or the material group hierarchy. In principle, you
can group together any characteristics in a hierarchy.
The quantity and sequence of characteristics in the master data
hierarchy are described technically in a dictionary structure, which
contains these characteristics. The dictionary structure that you
specify here is called the hierarchy structure. The characteristics of
the hierarchy structure form (along with the quantity of selected
<ZK>attributes</>, that is, the characteristics in the planning
hierarchy that are not contained in the master data hierarchy) the
planning levels that are to be filled in the planning hierarchy.
The system determines automatically the function module that specifies
the values of the master data hierarchy entries. It does this from the
selection characteristics that are to be specified and that have
already been maintained in the hierarchy structure and in the optional
stucture of the planning hierarchy. You maintain the assignment of
master data hierarchy <-> function module in transaction CMMAP02.
    <ZH>Example:</>
The delivered planning scenario 1_CM contains, for planning step
    1_CM_TA_2, the plannning levels HIER_ID, CDT1, ... , CDT7, MATNR.
If the planning hierarchy is completely empty and you want to transfer
completely a CDT hierarcy for a hierarchy ID into the plannning
hierarchy, the hierarchy structure must contain the characteristics
HIER_ID, CDT1, ..., CDT7, MATNR (compare this with dictionary structure
WISP_CM_HIESTRUC_1_CM). You do not need to enter any selection
    characteristics.
If the planning hierarchy is completely empty and you want to transfer
only the categories for a hierarchy ID into the planning hierarchy, the
hierarchy structure must contain only the characteristics HIER_ID, CDT1
(compare with dictionary structure WISP_CM_HIER_ID_2_CDT1). You do not
need to enter any selection characteristics.
If the planning hierarchy has been maintained to level CDT1 (or
constructed manually and you want to transfer the CDT levels CDT2,
CDT3, CDT4 for a category from the CDT master data hierarchy (this may
be the case, for example, before planning the performance measures for
a category), the hierarchy structure must be made up of exactly these
    characteristics (compare with dictionary structure
WISP_CM_CDT2_2_CDT4). The structure of the selection characteristics
consists of the characteristics HIER_ID, CDT1.
If the planning hierarchy is maintained to level CDT4 (or constructed
manually) and you want to transfer the relevant CDT subtree for a
category to the article level from the CDT master data hierarchy (this
may be, for example, before planning the category tactics), the
hierarchy structure must consist of the levels CDT5, CDT6, CDT7, MATNR
(compare with dictionary structure WISP_CM_CDT5_2_MATNR). Selection
characteristics must consist of the characteristics HIER_ID, CDT1, ...,
    CDT4.

    System Response

If you do not specify a hierarchy structure, the system cannot
    construct a planning hierarchy.

    How to fix this error?

Specify the name of the dictionary structure, in which the
characteristics of the master data hierarchy that is to be created are
    listed.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WXCM005 - Specify a hierachy structure ?

SAP Error Message: WXCM005 - "Specify a hierarchy structure"

    Cause:

The error message WXCM005 occurs when a hierarchy structure is required but has not been specified in a particular SAP transaction or configuration step. This typically happens in scenarios involving classification, variant configuration, or when working with characteristics and classes where a hierarchy structure is mandatory to proceed.

For example, in SAP Variant Configuration or Classification, when you try to assign or process characteristics or classes that require a hierarchy structure (such as a characteristic hierarchy or class hierarchy), and the system does not find any hierarchy structure specified, it throws this error.

    Solution:

To resolve the WXCM005 error, you need to specify the required hierarchy structure in the relevant screen or configuration step. The exact steps depend on the context where the error occurs, but generally:

    1. Identify the context where the error occurs (e.g., classification, variant configuration, BOM, etc.).
    2. Specify the hierarchy structure:
      • In classification, assign or create a hierarchy structure for the class or characteristic.
      • In variant configuration, ensure that the characteristic or class is linked to a hierarchy structure.
    3. Check the customizing settings:
      • Use transaction codes like CL02 (Change Class), CT04 (Change Characteristic), or variant configuration transactions.
      • In the characteristic or class maintenance, look for the hierarchy structure field and enter the appropriate hierarchy.
    4. Save and retry the operation.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
      • CL02 - Change Class
      • CT04 - Change Characteristic
      • CU50 - Change Variant Configuration
      • CU51 - Display Variant Configuration
    • Hierarchy Structures are used to organize characteristics or classes in a tree-like structure, which helps in better classification and variant configuration.
    • This error is common in Variant Configuration (LO-VC) and Classification (LO-CL) modules.
    • If you are unsure about which hierarchy structure to use, consult your SAP functional consultant or check the configuration in SPRO under:
      • Logistics ? General ? Classification System ? Define Hierarchy Structures
    • Sometimes, the hierarchy structure might be missing due to incomplete master data setup or missing customizing entries.

    Summary:

    • Cause: Missing hierarchy structure specification where required.
    • Solution: Specify the appropriate hierarchy structure in the relevant master data or configuration.
    • Check: Classification and variant configuration master data and customizing.

If you provide the exact transaction or process where the error occurs, I can give more precise instructions.
