Message text: Article for the price family could not be locked
The article/unit of measure combinations assigned to the family could
not be locked.
Another family, which may contain several articles from your family in
the same unit of measure is currently activated. To avoid multiple
assignment of articles to active price families activation was not
performed.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Try to activate the family again at a later stage. Pay attention to any
messages in the activation log. If you do want to save the family you
can deactivate it and then save it.

- Article for the price family could not be locked ?The SAP error message WV_FP051, which states "Article for the price family could not be locked," typically occurs in the context of managing pricing data for articles in SAP, particularly when dealing with price families in the SAP Retail or SAP S/4HANA environments. This error indicates that the system was unable to lock the specified article for processing, which can prevent updates or changes from being made.
Causes:
- Concurrent Access: Another user or process may be currently accessing or modifying the same article, leading to a lock conflict.
- Database Locking Issues: The database may have a lock on the article due to a previous transaction that has not been completed or released.
- System Configuration: There may be configuration issues in the system that affect how locks are managed for articles.
- Transaction Errors: An error in a previous transaction may have left the article in a locked state.
Solutions:
- Check for Active Sessions: Use transaction codes like SM12 (to view and manage locks) to check if there are any active locks on the article. If you find a lock that is no longer needed, you can delete it (if you have the necessary authorizations).
- Wait and Retry: If the lock is due to another user or process, waiting for a short period and then retrying the operation may resolve the issue.
- Review Transaction Logs: Check transaction logs for any errors or issues that may have caused the locking problem. This can help identify if a specific transaction needs to be addressed.
- System Restart: In some cases, a system restart may be necessary to clear any lingering locks or issues.
- Consult with Basis Team: If the issue persists, it may be necessary to involve your SAP Basis team to investigate deeper into the locking mechanisms and database status.
