  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WUSL450 - The entry is longer than 45 characters and is abbreviated using a '*' ?

The SAP error message WUSL450 indicates that a certain entry exceeds the maximum allowed length of 45 characters. When this limit is exceeded, the system abbreviates the entry using an asterisk (*) to indicate that the full text is not displayed.

    Cause:

This error typically occurs in scenarios where text fields or descriptions are limited to a certain number of characters, such as in:

    • Material descriptions
    • Vendor names
    • Customer names
    • Any other text fields in SAP that have a character limit

When the input exceeds this limit, SAP truncates the text and displays the asterisk to signify that the full entry is not being shown.

    Solution:

To resolve this issue, you can take the following steps:

    1. Shorten the Entry: Review the text you are trying to enter and shorten it to fit within the 45-character limit. This may involve using abbreviations or removing unnecessary words.

    2. Use Additional Fields: If the information is critical and cannot be shortened, consider using additional fields or notes that may be available in the SAP system to capture the full description or details.

    3. Check Configuration: If you have control over the SAP configuration, you may want to check if there are settings that can be adjusted to allow for longer entries. However, this may not always be possible due to system constraints.

    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on character limits for the fields you are working with.

    5. User Training: Ensure that users are aware of the character limits and provide training on how to effectively use abbreviations or alternative methods to convey necessary information.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any updates or patches that may address this issue or provide additional guidance.
    • Field Specifications: Review the specifications for the specific fields you are working with to understand their limitations and best practices.
    • SAP Community: Engage with the SAP Community forums for insights from other users who may have encountered similar issues.
