  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WL474 - Workflow & WI end & (event): Object '&' ID & in container more than once ?

The SAP error message WL474 indicates that there is a problem with the workflow container in SAP Business Workflow. Specifically, it means that an object is being referenced more than once in the workflow container, which is not allowed. This can lead to inconsistencies and errors in the workflow execution.

    Cause:

The error typically occurs due to one of the following reasons:

    1. Duplicate Entries: The same object is being added multiple times to the workflow container. This can happen if the workflow is designed incorrectly or if there are multiple events triggering the same workflow instance.
    2. Incorrect Workflow Design: The workflow might be designed in such a way that it unintentionally tries to insert the same object into the container multiple times.
    3. Event Handling Issues: If the workflow is triggered by events, there may be issues with how those events are being handled, leading to the same object being processed multiple times.

    Solution:

To resolve the WL474 error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check Workflow Design:

      • Review the workflow definition to ensure that the same object is not being added to the container multiple times. Look for any loops or conditions that might cause the same object to be processed more than once.
    2. Debugging:

      • Use the workflow debugging tools in SAP to trace the execution of the workflow. This can help identify where the duplicate entries are being introduced.
    3. Modify Event Handling:

      • If the workflow is triggered by events, ensure that the event handling logic is correct. Make sure that events are not being triggered multiple times for the same object.
    4. Container Management:

      • Check the workflow container management to ensure that the objects are being handled correctly. You may need to implement checks to prevent duplicates from being added.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to workflow management for any specific guidelines or best practices that might help in resolving this issue.
    6. Testing:

      • After making changes, thoroughly test the workflow to ensure that the error does not occur again and that the workflow behaves as expected.

    Related Information:

    • Workflow Container: The workflow container is a data structure that holds the data relevant to the workflow instance. It can include various objects, attributes, and values that are used during the workflow execution.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message. SAP frequently updates its knowledge base with solutions to common problems.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as SWDD (Workflow Builder) and SWI1 (Work Item Selection) to help in analyzing and modifying workflows.
