What causes this issue?

The characteristic values for the new variants, and the descriptions for
the new generic article are not entered properly. The following error
situations are possible:
Each variant must have a unique characteristic value (one-dimensional
generic articles) or a unique characteristic value combination
(multi-dimensional generic articles) for the variant-creating
characteristics. This prerequisite may not be fulfilled for some of the
new variants.
If there are several characteristic value columns, all columns need to
have a characteristic value assigned<(>,<)> to have a valid
characteristic value combination for the related variant. As long as
only some columns contain a characteristic value, the entered data is
invalid.
The languages used for the descriptions of the new generic article are
not unique.
Both the language and the description (line of text) have to be entered
to obtain a valid description line for the generic article. As long as
only one of these fields is filled, the entered data is invalid.
No description has been specified for the new generic article.

For the new variants, check the indicated lines for unique and complete
usage of characteristic values and characteristic value combinations.
For the descriptions of the new generic article, check the indicated
lines for unique usage of languages and complete description settings,
