Smart SAP Assistant

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message W4018 - &: & WM quant exists or WM transfer requirement exists ?

    SAP Error Message:
W4018: "& WM quant exists or WM transfer requirement exists"

    Cause:

This warning message occurs in SAP Warehouse Management (WM) when you try to perform an operation (such as deletion or movement of a material document or stock) but there are still WM quants or WM transfer requirements (TRs) related to that material or document.

    • WM Quant exists: A WM quant represents a specific quantity of material stored in a particular storage bin. If a quant exists, it means the stock is physically present in the warehouse and managed by WM.
    • WM Transfer Requirement exists: A transfer requirement is a request to move stock within the warehouse or between warehouse and production/storage locations. If a TR exists, it means there is a pending warehouse movement related to the material.

The system prevents certain operations (like deletion of material documents or stock adjustments) if these WM objects still exist, to avoid inconsistencies between Inventory Management (IM) and Warehouse Management (WM).

    When does this occur?

    • Trying to delete or reverse a material document in IM while WM quants or TRs still exist.
    • Attempting to post goods movements or stock changes without clearing related WM objects.
    • Trying to change stock or storage location when WM objects are still active.

    Solution:

    1. Check and clear WM quants:

      • Use transaction LX02 (Display Quants) or LX03 to check if quants exist for the material and storage location.
      • If quants exist, you may need to perform warehouse movements (e.g., transfer postings, stock transfers) to clear or relocate the quants.
      • If the quants are obsolete or incorrect, investigate and correct the stock in WM.
    2. Check and process WM Transfer Requirements:

      • Use transaction LT23 to display transfer requirements.
      • If TRs exist, they must be confirmed or deleted before proceeding.
      • Confirm the TRs using LT12 or delete them if they are no longer valid.
    3. Synchronize IM and WM stock:

      • Run stock reconciliation or inventory count to ensure IM and WM stock are aligned.
      • Use transaction LX15 (Inventory Differences) to identify discrepancies.
    4. After clearing WM quants and TRs:

      • Retry the original operation (e.g., deletion or posting).
      • The warning should no longer appear.

    Related Information:

    • Transactions:
      • LX02 - Display Quants
      • LX03 - Display Quants by Storage Bin
      • LT23 - Display Transfer Requirements
      • LT12 - Confirm Transfer Order
      • LX15 - Inventory Differences
    • Notes:
      • Always ensure that WM and IM stock are consistent to avoid such errors.
      • If unsure, consult with your WM consultant or SAP support before deleting or adjusting stock.
    • SAP Help:
      • Refer to SAP WM documentation on stock management and transfer requirements.
      • SAP Note related to W4018 may provide additional troubleshooting steps.

    Summary:
The W4018 warning indicates that warehouse stock (quants) or pending warehouse movements (transfer requirements) exist, blocking the requested operation. To resolve, identify and clear these WM objects before proceeding.
