  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message VSB012 - Sales document is currently locked by user &1 ?

The SAP error message VSB012 indicates that a sales document is currently locked by another user. This typically occurs when a user is editing or processing a sales document, and another user attempts to access or modify the same document simultaneously.

    Cause:

    1. User Locking: The primary cause of this error is that the sales document is being edited by another user. SAP locks the document to prevent data inconsistencies.
    2. Session Timeout: Sometimes, if a user has an open session that times out, the lock may not be released immediately.
    3. Background Jobs: If a background job is processing the sales document, it may also cause the document to be locked.
    4. Technical Issues: Occasionally, technical issues or system errors can lead to locks not being released properly.

    Solution:

    1. Wait and Retry: The simplest solution is to wait for the other user to finish their work and then try accessing the document again.
    2. Identify the Lock: You can use transaction code SM12 to check for locks. Enter the sales document number to see which user has locked it.
    3. Contact the User: If you identify the user who has locked the document, you can contact them to see if they can release the lock.
    4. Release the Lock: If necessary and if you have the appropriate authorizations, you can manually release the lock in transaction SM12. However, this should be done with caution, as it may lead to data inconsistencies if the other user is still working on the document.
    5. Check for Background Jobs: Use transaction SM37 to check if any background jobs are running that might be locking the document.
    6. System Administration: If the issue persists, it may require intervention from your SAP Basis team to investigate any underlying issues with the locking mechanism.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
      • SM12: To view and manage locks.
      • SM37: To check background jobs.
      • VA03: To display sales documents.
    • User Training: Ensure that users are trained on how to properly close sessions and release locks when they are done working with sales documents.
