  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message VN327 - Object type & in the task is inconsistent with application & ?

    SAP Error Message:
VN327 - Object type & in the task is inconsistent with application &

    Cause:

This error occurs when there is a mismatch between the object type assigned to a workflow task and the application context in which the task is being processed. In SAP Workflow, each task is linked to an object type (e.g., BUS2012 for Purchase Requisition, BUS2081 for Purchase Order, etc.) and an application (e.g., MM_PUR, MM_PO, etc.). If the object type in the task does not correspond to the expected application, the system raises this inconsistency error.

Typical scenarios causing this error include:

    • The workflow task is designed for a certain business object type but is being triggered or called in a different application context.
    • Custom workflows or tasks where the object type or application has been incorrectly assigned or modified.
    • Transport or system copy issues where object type or application assignments got corrupted or mismatched.
    • Incorrect or inconsistent configuration in the workflow customizing (transaction SWO1 for object types, or PFTC for tasks).

    Solution:

To resolve the VN327 error, follow these steps:

    1. Identify the Task and Object Type:

      • Check the workflow task that is causing the error.
      • Use transaction PFTC to display the task and verify the assigned object type.
    2. Check the Application Assignment:

      • Verify the application assigned to the task.
      • The application should be consistent with the object type. For example, if the object type is BUS2012 (Purchase Requisition), the application should be MM_PUR.
    3. Correct the Object Type or Application:

      • If the object type is incorrect for the application, change it to the correct one.
      • If the application is incorrect, adjust it accordingly.
      • This can be done in the task definition (PFTC) or in the workflow container where the object is passed.
    4. Check Workflow Container and Binding:

      • Ensure that the workflow container elements are correctly bound to the object type.
      • Use transaction SWDD (Workflow Builder) to check the container and binding.
    5. Check Custom Code or Enhancements:

      • If the workflow is custom, review any custom code or enhancements that might be passing incorrect object types or applications.
    6. Transport and System Copy Checks:

      • If the issue appeared after a transport or system copy, verify that the workflow objects and customizing are consistent across systems.
    7. Testing:

      • After corrections, test the workflow to ensure the error no longer occurs.

    Related Information:
