Message text: Number of Threads per Core
Number of threads that belong to one physical CPU core of the
virtualization host. On Intel architecture the ability to run more than
one thread per core is called Hyperthreading. If Hyperthreading is
activated, the value is usually 2 on Intel like CPUs but might be higher
for other processor architectures. If the value is 1, then
Hyperthreading is not active.

VIRT607
- Number of Threads per Core ?The SAP error message VIRT607, which pertains to the "Number of Threads per Core," typically arises in the context of SAP systems running on virtualized environments. This error indicates that the configuration of the virtual machine (VM) does not meet the recommended or required settings for optimal performance.
Cause:
The error is usually caused by one of the following issues:
- Excessive Threads per Core: The number of virtual CPUs (vCPUs) assigned to a VM exceeds the recommended number of threads per physical core. This can lead to performance degradation.
- Improper Virtualization Configuration: The VM may be configured with more threads than the underlying physical hardware can efficiently handle.
- Resource Contention: If multiple VMs are competing for the same physical resources, it can lead to performance issues and trigger this error.
Solution:
To resolve the VIRT607 error, consider the following steps:
Review and Adjust vCPU Configuration:
- Check the number of vCPUs assigned to the VM. The general recommendation is to assign no more than 1.5 to 2 threads per physical core, depending on the workload.
- If the VM has more threads than recommended, reduce the number of vCPUs.
Optimize Virtualization Settings:
- Ensure that the virtualization settings are optimized for the workload. This may involve adjusting settings in the hypervisor (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) to better allocate resources.
Monitor Resource Usage:
- Use monitoring tools to analyze CPU usage and performance metrics. This can help identify if the VM is under heavy load or if there are other performance bottlenecks.
Consult SAP Notes:
- Check for any relevant SAP Notes or documentation that may provide specific guidance or recommendations for your version of SAP and the underlying infrastructure.
Test Performance:
- After making adjustments, monitor the performance of the SAP system to ensure that the changes have resolved the issue and improved performance.
Related Information:
By following these steps, you should be able to address the VIRT607 error and optimize the performance of your SAP system in a virtualized environment.
