The SAP error message VIRT221, which states "Available Capacity Consumed," typically occurs in the context of capacity planning and resource management within SAP systems, particularly in production planning and control (PP) or project systems (PS). This error indicates that the available capacity for a particular resource (such as a machine, labor, or work center) has been fully utilized, and no additional capacity is available for scheduling new operations or tasks.

    Cause:

    1. Resource Overutilization: The resource in question has been scheduled for more work than it can handle within the specified time frame.
    2. Capacity Planning Settings: The capacity planning settings for the resource may not be configured correctly, leading to an inaccurate representation of available capacity.
    3. Incorrect Master Data: The work center or resource master data may have incorrect capacity values or settings.
    4. Unplanned Activities: Unplanned activities or changes in production schedules can lead to unexpected consumption of available capacity.

    Solution:

    1. Review Capacity Planning:

      • Check the capacity planning settings for the affected work center or resource. Ensure that the available capacity is correctly defined.
      • Adjust the capacity utilization settings if necessary.
    2. Analyze Resource Utilization:

      • Use transaction codes like CM01 (Capacity Planning) or CM21 (Capacity Leveling) to analyze the current utilization of the resource.
      • Identify any operations that are consuming capacity and assess whether they can be rescheduled or adjusted.
    3. Adjust Production Schedule:

      • If possible, reschedule or redistribute tasks to other resources that have available capacity.
      • Consider extending working hours or adding shifts if the demand justifies it.
    4. Correct Master Data:

      • Verify and correct any inaccuracies in the work center or resource master data, including capacity values, available hours, and shift patterns.
    5. Monitor and Plan Ahead:

      • Implement better forecasting and planning practices to avoid overloading resources in the future.
      • Regularly review capacity utilization reports to proactively manage resource allocation.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as CM01, CM21, and C223 (for capacity evaluation).
