What causes this issue?

You are trying to process or display several handling units (HUs) at the
same time. Processing HUs can include either packing or unpacking
transactions. The message is cancelled by different references for the i
ndividual handling units.
One of the following reasons may be responsible for you not being able
to process the handling unit:
You are trying to simultaneously process HUs which have references to
different documents (sales order/scheduling agreement, stock transport
order/scheduling agreement or delivery). The document items must also be
identical.
You are trying to pack another material for a HU. This HU already has a
reference to a sales order, an order or a delivery.
You are already processing a HU with reference and want to pack more
material into a newly created HU.

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

How to fix this error?

It is not possible to process HUs with different references at the same
time. If it is necessary to process these HUs, you must firstly delete
the existing references for the sales order, order or delivery.
HUs without reference can therefore not be processed any further using
transaction VL10HU.
