  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message VCH_L2A_EXPLOSION120 - Parent of BOM component &1 has no corresponding workbench item ?

The SAP error message VCH_L2A_EXPLOSION120 indicates that there is an issue with the Bill of Materials (BOM) in the system. Specifically, it means that the parent item of a BOM component does not have a corresponding workbench item. This can occur in various scenarios, particularly when working with production orders, BOMs, or when trying to explode a BOM in the system.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Workbench Item: The parent item (the main product or assembly) does not have a corresponding workbench item in the system. This could happen if the item was not created properly or if it was deleted.
    2. Incorrect BOM Configuration: The BOM may be incorrectly configured, or the parent item may not be set up correctly in the system.
    3. Data Inconsistencies: There may be inconsistencies in the master data, such as missing or incorrect links between the parent item and its components.
    4. Authorization Issues: Sometimes, the user may not have the necessary authorizations to view or access the workbench item.

    Solution:

    1. Check BOM Configuration: Verify that the BOM is correctly configured and that the parent item exists in the system. You can do this by using transaction codes like CS03 (Display BOM) to check the BOM details.
    2. Create or Update Workbench Item: If the parent item does not exist, create it using the appropriate transaction (e.g., CS01 for creating a BOM). Ensure that the workbench item is correctly linked to the BOM.
    3. Check Master Data: Review the master data for the parent item to ensure that all necessary information is present and correct. This includes checking the material master data using transaction MM03.
    4. Authorization Check: Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations to access the workbench item. This may involve checking user roles and permissions.
    5. Consult Documentation: If the issue persists, consult SAP documentation or reach out to your SAP support team for further assistance.

    Related Information:
