Message text: Modelling error: configuration always inconsistent
The system detected an inconsistency immediately. The inconsistency is
detected before any user interactions are considered, as such it is
impossible for the user to solve the inconsistency. This can happen due
to inconsistent master data of the root material or constraints on the
root material that evaluate to inconsistency before user assignments are
considered.
If master data cause the inconsistency:
The master data must be reviewed and changed.
If a constraint causes the inconsistency:
The constraint needs to be changed to not cause an inconsistency when
the model does not have any characteristic valuations.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

- Modelling error: configuration always inconsistent ?The SAP error message VCH_HL_ENG_PROCESSOR006 with the description "Modelling error: configuration always inconsistent" typically occurs in the context of SAP Variant Configuration (VC). This error indicates that there is a problem with the configuration model that makes it impossible to create a valid configuration for the product.
Causes:
- Inconsistent Dependencies: The configuration model may have conflicting dependencies or constraints that cannot be satisfied simultaneously.
- Missing Characteristics: Required characteristics may not be defined or linked correctly in the configuration model.
- Incorrect Values: The values assigned to characteristics may not be compatible with the defined dependencies.
- Modeling Errors: There may be errors in the way the configuration model is set up, such as incorrect settings in the class or characteristics.
- Circular Dependencies: There may be circular references in the dependencies that lead to an inconsistent state.
Solutions:
- Review Dependencies: Check the dependencies defined in the configuration model. Ensure that they do not conflict and that they are logically consistent.
- Check Characteristics: Verify that all required characteristics are defined and correctly linked to the configuration model.
- Validate Values: Ensure that the values assigned to characteristics are valid and compatible with the dependencies.
- Modeling Review: Go through the configuration model setup to identify any modeling errors. This includes checking the class, characteristics, and their relationships.
- Testing: Use the configuration simulation tool in SAP to test different configurations and identify where the inconsistency arises.
