  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message V5009 - The determined date & deviates from the specified contract start date ?

The SAP error message V5009 indicates that there is a discrepancy between the determined date (usually the delivery date or the date of the transaction) and the specified contract start date in a sales or contract-related process. This error typically arises in the context of sales orders, contracts, or scheduling agreements where date consistency is crucial.

    Cause:

    1. Date Mismatch: The determined date for the transaction (e.g., delivery date) is earlier or later than the contract start date defined in the sales contract or agreement.
    2. Contract Validity: The contract may not be valid for the date on which the transaction is being processed. For example, if the contract starts on a future date, you cannot create a sales order with a delivery date before that.
    3. Configuration Issues: There may be configuration settings in the system that enforce strict date checks, leading to this error.
    4. Data Entry Errors: Incorrect data entry when creating or modifying contracts or sales orders can lead to this mismatch.

    Solution:

    1. Check Contract Dates: Review the contract start date and ensure that it aligns with the determined date of the transaction. If the contract is not valid for the date in question, you may need to adjust the transaction date or create a new contract.
    2. Adjust Delivery Dates: If the determined date is incorrect, adjust the delivery date in the sales order or transaction to fall within the valid range of the contract.
    3. Review Configuration: If this error occurs frequently, review the configuration settings related to date checks in the sales and distribution module to ensure they align with business requirements.
    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on handling contracts and date validations.
    5. User Training: Ensure that users are trained on the importance of date consistency when creating contracts and sales orders.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may need to use transaction codes like VA01 (Create Sales Order), VA02 (Change Sales Order), or VA03 (Display Sales Order) to check and modify sales orders.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional guidance.
    • Support: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with an SAP expert for further assistance.

By addressing the root cause of the date mismatch and ensuring proper alignment between contract and transaction dates, you can resolve the V5009 error effectively.
