  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message USMDC031 - Entity type &1 (data model &2) was not assigned to a filter object ?

The SAP error message USMDC031 indicates that a specific entity type (denoted as &1) in a data model (denoted as &2) has not been assigned to a filter object. This typically occurs in the context of SAP's data modeling and management, particularly when working with the SAP HANA database or SAP BW (Business Warehouse).

    Cause:

The error can arise due to several reasons:

    1. Missing Assignment: The entity type has not been properly assigned to a filter object in the data model configuration.
    2. Configuration Issues: There may be issues in the configuration of the data model or the filter object itself.
    3. Data Model Changes: If changes were made to the data model (like adding or removing entities), the filter object may not have been updated accordingly.
    4. Transport Issues: If the data model was transported from one system to another, the filter object assignment may not have been included in the transport.

    Solution:

To resolve the error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Entity Type Assignment:

      • Go to the data model configuration in the SAP system.
      • Verify that the entity type &1 is correctly assigned to the appropriate filter object.
    2. Update Filter Object:

      • If the entity type is not assigned, you will need to assign it to the filter object.
      • This can usually be done in the data model or filter object configuration screen.
    3. Review Data Model Changes:

      • If there have been recent changes to the data model, ensure that all necessary updates have been made to the filter objects.
      • Revisit the data model design to ensure that all entities and their relationships are correctly defined.
    4. Transport Check:

      • If the issue arose after a transport, check the transport logs to ensure that all necessary objects were included in the transport.
      • If needed, re-transport the missing objects or manually adjust the configuration in the target system.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on the data model and filter object configuration.
    6. Testing:

      • After making the necessary changes, test the data model to ensure that the error no longer occurs.
