Message type: E = Error
Message class: USMD2 - Master Data: UI Modeling
Message number: 203
Message text: Action not possible; lower-level nodes in different change requests
The system cannot determine a change request for the higher-level
hierarchy node &V1& of type &V2& because lower-level nodes of node &V1&
are in turn higher-level hierarchy nodes in various change requests.
It is not possible to carry out the action in the hierarchy.
Finalize the various change requests so that the lower-level nodes of
node &V1& are released again and node &V1& can then be included in a
change request. Then carry out the action.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

USMD2203
- Action not possible; lower-level nodes in different change requests ?The SAP error message USMD2203, which states "Action not possible; lower-level nodes in different change requests," typically occurs in the context of SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) when you are trying to perform an action (like approve, reject, or activate) on a change request that has dependent nodes (sub-items) that are part of different change requests.
Cause:
This error arises when:
- You have a change request that includes multiple nodes (e.g., master data records).
- Some of these nodes are linked to other change requests, which means they are being managed separately.
- The system does not allow actions on a parent node if its child nodes are in different change requests, as this could lead to inconsistencies in data management.
Solution:
To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:
Identify Change Requests: Check the change requests associated with the nodes involved. You can do this by reviewing the change request details in the MDG application.
Consolidate Change Requests: If possible, consolidate the nodes into a single change request. This may involve:
- Moving the dependent nodes into the same change request.
- Creating a new change request that includes all relevant nodes.
Process Change Requests Separately: If consolidation is not feasible, you may need to process the change requests separately. This means:
- Approving or rejecting the change requests one at a time.
- Ensuring that all dependent nodes are processed in their respective change requests before attempting to act on the parent node.
Check for Dependencies: Review the dependencies between the nodes to ensure that you are aware of how they are linked. This can help in planning the sequence of actions.
Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on handling change requests in your version of SAP MDG.
Contact Support: If the issue persists or if you need further assistance, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with SAP experts who can provide tailored advice based on your system configuration.
